What is symbol navigation
Symbol navigation arranges the modules, parameters, ports, signals, generate blocks and instances in the current file into a hierarchy, each with a declaration summary such as i_data input wire [(2*IWIDTH-1):0] i_data. Select a symbol and the editor jumps straight to its declaration, with no scrolling through long files.

Entry points
| Entry point | How to use |
|---|---|
| Outline panel | Expand it at the bottom of Explorer and browse the hierarchy; expand a generate block to see the instances inside it |
| Go to Symbol in Editor | Press Ctrl+Shift+O (Windows/Linux) and type part of a name to filter; each entry shows its enclosing scope on the right, for example instance bfly in generate block HWBFLY |
Outline versus the Architecture view
Outline shows the declaration structure of the current file; Digital IDE's Architecture view shows module instances across the whole project. When a module is instantiated in several places, the two views differ in count and hierarchy.
When the outline is missing
Fix the earliest syntax error in the file and wait for parsing to update. If parsing stops at an unrecoverable error, symbols after it do not appear in the outline.
